EXCLUSIVE: A PALATE CLEANSER, BY BEE DIAMONDHEAD

Bee Diamondhead embodies a lot of I’d like to think what ISYOURS stands for - collaboration, modesty, never taking everything too seriously, and a true DIY spirit. Her footprint in South African fashion is bold and indisputable, her approach to creativity stays ahead of the curve with an aesthetic that consistently pushes boundaries, yet somehow remains distinctly Joburg.

“I just want to make people smile again, something that’s a bit of a palate cleanser, maybe we should call it that!” she says.

We haven’t heard from Bee in a while, so we take a break from the global panic, Instagram lives and planning piercing dates for a FaceTime catch up while “social distancing”  to figure out what we can do to make people feel better, spreading love in uncertain times and what potentially lies ahead for this ISYOURS exclusive – A Palate Cleanser, by Bee Diamondhead. A collaboration with Opticien, photographed by Aart Verrips.

Bee, what have you actually been up to?

Im busy curating my first show with Standard Bank Art Gallery, my focus is putting a spotlight on our youth, the future of art. Im also doing a lot of test shoots this year something I haven’t done in a long time, I’m excited to play again.

How did this project come about?

I have shoot dreams, shoot ideas that come to me in my sleep. Lately I’ve been dreaming of black girls with mullets lol. So I called my dear friend, hair stylist to the stars Saadique to bring some hair and we created magic! This is purely a fun shoot for us. I think everyone should be testing and having fun. After corona that is.

Why was this "palate cleansing” important to you?

I feel like we could all use a breather, a break from all the bad news. Now more than ever the arts are important, we need to all do our part in contributing a little beauty to our community.

Describe your style in one sentence.

Sheesh! Thats tough! I’m a stylist, this changes constantly! But today I'd say my style is local & conscious.

How does your experience of Joburg culture reflect on your work?

It’s everything to be honest. Joburg is so rich in culture and inspiration, the vibes are so strong here.

What else can we expect from King Diamondhead in 2020?

Lol, I feel like I’ve had a stick up my ass for the longest time. This is my King year, I feel fearless, I’m ready to play again.

What do you want to say to everyone reading this right now?

Stay your ass home!
